KRIEGSMARINE M 40
The
M40 helmet was used, like the M35 model, in the Heer, Luftwaffe, SS,
Kriegsmarine…etc.
The
M40 is also similar to the M35, because of his rolled edges along the base rim
of the helmet! However, the M40 can be easily recognized by the way the air vent
is inserted into the shell of the helmet!
To reduce production costs, the producers of the helmets, made the decision, to eliminate the steps to made a separate air vent hole into the side of the shell. By this way the helmet is slightly more rounded than the M35. The M40 is also heavier, because the helmet has a ticker steel shell!
The
basic paint of the M40 is normally a dull smooth or semi rough exterior paint
with a smooth inside!
The
color of the paint finish is slightly darker on the M40 than on the M35!
The
M40 helmet has normally only one decal, except if it is a Waffen SS or Algemeine
SS M40 helmet, with can be found with 2 decals!
It
is not impossible to find a Luftwaffe, Kriegsmarine, Heer, RAD,…etc M40
helmet, with 2 decals. The helmet can be made just at the end or beginning of
production and so be one of the last that has 2 decals!
