GERMAN HUNTING ASSOCIATION

The German hunting Association has, as so many groups in nazi Germany, there own dagger but it was not unique like all the other ones! This dagger is worn decades long by German hunters and still worn today! The metal fittings of this dagger, can be found in nickel silver, nickel plated and sometimes, but more the older version in brass. The grip is of genuine staghorn and bears the Hunting Association insignia. The older version doesn't show  this emblem but has oakleaves/acorns on the grip. The pommel cap shows usually an acorn that holds the dagger together. The crossguard resembles two deer hoves. A fluted clamshell completes the hilt design. Most of the time the blade is etched with various hunting scenes and motifs. The metal scabbard is found with a pebbled green, brown or black leather cover. An extension on the upper scabbard fitting in the shape of an acorn serves as a frog holding device. The dagger is longer than many other daggers from the Third Reich period, and measures 49 cm. This dagger has no blade motto! Hangers for this dagger are, a green leather frog. The dagger can have also a portepee, a green portepee for Forestry candidates and a gold and silver knot for Professional Hunters only. The hunting dagger can be found in different styles and lengths!
