Gravity knife
The gravity knife, also known as the paratrooper knife, exists in 2 versions. The pre-war version was the non-takedown type with nickled fittings. The war version was the takedown type with blued fittings. A spike with Waffen amt stamp (eagle over 5) was used to unravvel the parachute chords. The grip is made of wood and a ring was attached where a lanyard could be used to fasten the knife to the uniform. Most common makers where SMF and Paul Weyersberg. Knifes with a R.B.NR. (Reichsbetrieb nummer) makermark where also found. The SMF knifes have the word Rostfrei or Inox (very rare) under the SMF logo. Most of the Weyersberg and R.B. NR knifes also have a blued blade that the SMF knives do not have.
The takedown type could be completely disassembled for cleaning. The button below the arrow on the obverse must be pressed down before the cap can be removed. The handles than be swung apart and the blade can be taken out for cleaning.
